ABR CONCEPT

ABR Concept for Sewage Management with Biogas production

An anaerobic baffled reactor (ABR) is an improved septic tank with a series of baffles under which the wastewater is forced to flow. The increased contact time with the active biomass (sludge) results in improved treatment. The ABR system consist of 3 to 6 up-flow chambers. ABR start with settling chamber for larger solids and impurities followed by series of at least 2, sometimes up to 5 up-flow chambers.

Advantages

  • Low operating costs, and low sludge generation
  • Allows for Biogas recovery, which can be used as a substitute to LPG and fuel wood
  • High treatment performance in combination with filtration system
  • Long service life
  • No electrical energy is required
  • Resistance to organic and hydraulic shock loads

Applicability

  • Suitable for household level of small neighbourhood as Decentralized Wastewater Treatment System (DEWATS).
  • Suitable for industrial wastewater
  • Installed in every type of climate, although efficiency is affected in cold climate.
  • Can be installed underground. Therefore good for areas where land is limited
